JACK HOLMES
When Jack was in high school, his industrial arts teacher encouraged him to go to school for architecture. His guidance counselor, on the other hand, told him that his mathematical skills were best suited to the army. He chose to listen to one and not the other, and has now been involved in Minnesota architecture for more than 30 years. He joined Vanman Architects and Builders in 1979 and has since been involved in several hundred projects.

What has been your most inspirational moment?
My most inspirational moment was when I heard Dr. Robert Schuller say “ if you are at a job only for a paycheck, you are in a rut, and a rut is nothing more than a grave with ends kicked out. It takes a lot of guts to get out of the ruts”. This one statement caused me to quit my job, which lead me to Vanman.
